North Carolina LCV Releases 2011 Legislative Scorecard

After months of waiting for the 2011 legislative session to end, NCLCV today is releasing its annual scorecard on North Carolina state legislators' performance on the key environmental votes of 2011 in the N.C. General Assembly.

According to NCLCV Director of Governmental Relations Dan Crawford, the 2011 average scores are the lowest in the history of the Conservation Scorecard. Crawford said, "Legislators in the 2011 long session made poor choices when it comes to protecting our natural resources and quality of life. With North Carolina consistently ranking at the top of lists for best places to live and do business in the country, the legislators failed to realize the impact their decisions will have on our quality of life for the long-term."

The average House score was 43%, down from 67% in 2009-2010, while the average in the Senate dropped all the way to 27%, from 69% in 2009-1010. Even worse, the average scores of incoming first-year legislators were lower still: 35% in the House and a shocking 18% in the Senate.

The entire 2011 Conservation Scorecard, with the issues scored and individual legislators' scores, can be found athttp://nclcv.org/what/scoring/.
