The board of directors of OLCV is seeking a dynamic new Executive Director.

 

About OLCV:

OLCV is Oregon’s leading environmental political group. OLCV runs aggressive campaigns to elect pro-environment leaders and hold elected officials accountable. OLCV also plays a leadership role in coordinating environmental lobbying efforts in the State Capitol. OLCV and its Political Action Committee, along with its sister organization, OLCV Education Fund, currently has a staff of 11 and had a combined budget of $1.1 million in 2008. Timing:

We are seeking somebody who can start on or around October 1, 2009.


Job Description: A candidate for Executive Director will have strong fundraising, political, and nonprofit organizational experience and skills as well as a passion for protecting Oregon’s environment.


Primary responsibilities include:

•Play a leading role in raising the budgets of OLCV, OLCV’s Political Action Committee, and OLCV Education Fund.

•Work with staff and board to develop and conduct a robust electoral program that includes candidate recruitment and training, endorsements, campaign consulting and assistance, and independent campaigns on behalf of candidates.

•Work with staff and board to develop accountability tools, such as Scorecards and similar evaluations of elected officials at the state and local levels.

•Work with staff and other environmental leaders to help the conservation community pass critical legislation that furthers the environmental movement's highest priorities at the state level. •Hire and manage staff and vendors.

•Oversee financial, personnel, and administrative management of the organization

•Work with board of directors to develop and achieve long-range strategic plan goals. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors.


Attributes Sought: Applicants must have a strong personal commitment to OLCV’s mission. Proven fundraising and political experience is required. Experience managing a non-profit organization is preferred.

 

Experience and skills sought include:

•Superior leadership, organizational, staff management, strategic thinking and planning skills

•Knowledge of environmental politics, issues, and the political landscape

•Political campaign experience

•Significant experience soliciting major gifts from individuals •Strong communications, media, public speaking skills •Experience working with coalitions

•Existing network of contacts in political and environmental circles, with particular emphasis on contacts that could prove useful for work in Oregon

 

Location: OLCV’s headquarters are in downtown Portland. Regular travel within the state is required, with occasional travel outside the state.

 

Compensation:

OLCV offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, along with holiday, vacation, sabbatical, retirement, and health/dental benefits.
