Job Description
The New Jersey League of Conservation Voters (NJLCV) is a non-partisan, non-profit, and policy making organization that works to make environmental protection a top priority with elected officials, decision-makers and the voters by evaluating incumbent performance, seeking passage, adoption and implementation of key policies, regulations and legislation, including appropriations, and endorsing and electing environmental leaders to office in the Garden State.
The Executive Director will be responsible for strategic leadership, direction and management of NJLCV and the NJLCV Educational Fund, while working in close partnership with the Board of Directors. NJLCV will seek to inform and educate decision-makers on environmental issues, policies, and legislation on an on-going basis. On an annual basis, NJLCV will also hold legislators accountable for their votes on key environmental issues, by tracking voting records. NJLCV will develop a proactive environmental docket seeking adoption of key polices and laws needed to safeguard the environment.
This is a salaried position based in Trenton, NJ reporting to the Board of Directors.
Responsibilities include:
A candidate for Executive Director will have strong fundraising, campaign and organization skills as well as a strong personal commitment to NJLCV’s mission.
• Raise budget for NJLCV, its associated education fund and PAC;
• Develop and implement programs to grow state-wide membership and presence;
• Work with board of directors to achieve long-range strategic plan goals;
• Run robust political program to elect pro-conservation candidates;
• Work with other conservation organizations and interest groups to advance NJLCV’s public policy agenda, including a strategic legislative agenda;
• Hire and manage staff and/or consultants (as budget goals are achieved); and
• Oversee financial and administrative management of organization.
Experience and skills sought include:
• Major donor fundraising experience (required)
• Political experience, including in legislative and campaign settings (required)
• Superior leadership, organizational, staff management, and strategic thinking (required)
• Strong communications, media, public speaking skills (required)
• Knowledge of New Jersey environmental issues and political landscape (preferred)
• Experience working with boards and in non-profit management (preferred)
