National LCV- Communications Associate (12.21.11)

General Description: The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) works to turn environmental values into national priorities.  To secure the environmental future of our planet, LCV’s mission is to advocate for sound environmental policies, to elect pro-environmental candidates who will adopt and implement such policies and to provide the state LCVs with the resources and tools to accomplish and sustain their mission.

LCV is seeking a Communications Associate to assist in media relations and outreach on the organization’s priority issue and political campaigns in 2012. This is a short-term position starting February 1^st and ending December 1, 2012.

Responsibilities:

·         Write press releases, Op-Eds, background material and blog posts;

·         Make pitch calls to reporters and create media lists;

·         Coordinate media activities on priority campaigns, including press conferences, editorial board meetings, events, and report releases; and

·         Manage and support content development on the LCV website, including posting press releases.

Qualifications:

• Education:  College degree required.

• Work experience: 1-2 years experience in communications or campaign work.

• Skills:  Candidates should possess exceptional communication skills, including strong writing skills; strong organizational skills with the ability to manage several tasks at once; and a demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Political experience preferred.

• Conditions: Ability to work overtime with little notice; able to work hours exceeding stated office hours to get the job done; ability and willingness to travel. This position is based in Washington, D.C.
