 Maryland League of Conservation Voters Education Fund

 

Field Organizer Position Available

 

The Maryland League of Conservation Voters Education Fund, a statewide non-partisan environmental advocacy organization, seeks a Field Organizer to build regional relationships with local environmental groups and leaders, build a strong, educated, and committed base of environmental voters, and to coordinate events for organizational visibility. The Organizer will be responsible for recruiting, engaging, and tracking our relationship with volunteers.  She or he will be responsible for organizing phone banks, coalition meetings, and attending community gatherings, fairs, and farmers markets for purposes of volunteer recruitment.

 

Primary Responsibilities Include:

·        Manage the MD LCV Education Funds Eastern Shore Environmental Alliance.

·        Identify recruit, and manage volunteers to assist with our statewide advocacy campaigns.

·        Coordinate and manage all aspects of volunteer activities such as: phone banks, door to door canvassing, generating calls and letters to elected officials, on-line advocacy and “new media” outreach, generating letters to the editor, meetings with elected officials, and other community gatherings.

·        Attend local events on the Eastern Shore for volunteer recruitment and visibility, such as tabling at farmers markets, neighborhood festivals, and issues forums.

·        Plan and coordinate events such as town hall meetings, trainings, press events, meetings with legislators.

 

The following skills are required for the successful applicant:

·        Strong outreach and public speaking skills.

·        1-2 years experience (either paid or volunteer) working on issue or candidate campaigns.

·        Ability to work independently.

 

The following skills and experience are preferred for the successful applicant:

·        Experience with managing web site content and new media outreach.

·        Strong writing skills.

·        Experience with advocacy and environmental issues.

·        Knowledge of/experience with Maryland environmental issues, particularly on the Eastern Shore.

·        Working knowledge of Microsoft Access and Excel and database programs.

 

Compensation: Competitive salary and benefits based on experience and leadership ability.

 

Position Requirements: This is a full time position based either in Annapolis or on the Eastern Shore that will require extensive travel around the state, primarily in the Eastern Shore area. Evening and weekend hours are required to be successful. 

 

Availability: We seek to have the successful candidate start by June 30, 2009.
