League of Conservation Voters, Legislative Representative


TITLE:                 LEGISLATIVE REPRESENTATIVE

STATUS:            EXEMPT

REPORTS TO: SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

 

Use your lobbying, policy and research experience to advocate for pro-environment policies and elect candidates who will support those policies!

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) works to turn environmental values into national priorities.  To secure the environmental future of our planet, LCV’s mission is to advocate for sound environmental policies and to elect pro-environmental candidates who will adopt and implement such policies.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Deputy Legislative Director to advance a pro-environment agenda in Congress and the administration. 
  • Collaborate with other legislative staff to develop and implement LCV’s legislative and administrative positions and strategies on a range of environmental, energy, and public health issues. 
  • Lead LCV’s work in a number of policy areas, including oceans, lands protection, and water quality and provide backup on global warming, energy and other issues. 
  • Lobby Congress and the administration directly.
  • Assist in production of LCV’s nationally recognized National Environmental Scorecard
  • Research, track and analyze the flow of environmental legislation and administrative policies.
  • Ensure the accuracy of public education materials.
  • Participate in and develop coalitions to advance legislative goals.
  • Assist the Communications Department with media and online work .
  • Partner with state leagues on various projects and provide frequent updates on federal legislation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ideal candidates will have a college degree and at least 2-3 years in environmental advocacy and legislative affairs. Experience should include policy, research, coalition-building, public presentations, and writing in a political environment.
