Conservation New Hampshire (CNH) is a non-partisan, policy and political action organization dedicated to making environmental protection a top priority with elected officials, agency leaders, and voters. CNH educates the public and policymakers about key conservation priorities, works to elect environmental leaders to state office and holds them accountable once elected. Through the CNH Voter Center and a political action committee (PAC), CNH actively engages in electoral politics by endorsing and working for candidates for state office. CNH is recognized as the convener of New Hampshire’s environmental community, guiding the development of a shared conservation agenda. CNH has become an effective force at the ballot box and in Concord, and is New Hampshire’s “go-to” organization on issues relating to politics and the environment.
The Executive Director will be responsible for strategic leadership, direction, and management of CNH and the CNH Voters Center, working in close partnership with the Board of Directors. This is a salaried position based in Concord, New Hampshire, reporting to the Board of Directors. The Executive Director will supervise CNH’s staff; currently there is one other salaried position (Development Director) and a part-time bookkeeper.
Responsibilities include:
A candidate for Executive Director will have strong fundraising, campaign, communications and organization skills as well as a strong personal commitment to CNH’s mission. He or she will:
- Raise the annual budget for CNH, the CNH Voters Center, and its PAC;
- Develop and implement programs to grow CNH's state-wide presence;
- Work with board of directors to identify and achieve long-range strategic goals;
- Run robust political programs to identify and elect pro-conservation candidates;
- Work with other conservation organizations and interest groups to advance CNH’s public policy agenda, including a strategic legislative agenda;
- Cultivate and mobilize the green business community in support of CNH's policy goals;
- Hire and manage staff and/or consultants; and
- Oversee financial and administrative management of organization assuring compliance with regulatory agencies.
Experience and skills sought include:
- Major donor fundraising experience (required)
- Political experience, including in legislative and campaign settings (required)
- Superior leadership, organizational, staff management, and strategic thinking (required)
- Strong communications, media, writing and public speaking skills (required)
- Knowledge of New Hampshire environmental issues and political landscape (preferred)
- Experience working with boards and in non-profit management (preferred)
- Strong social media, internet, and software skills (preferred)
